March 5th deadline for Heart Haiti - The Junior Interact and Unity Clubs are working together to raise money to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Please help out by contributing a dollar ($1 or more) and your child will sign hand(s) to show your support. Representatives from the Heart Haiti organization will be coming to the advisory classes to collect donations so please be generous and help us reach our goal of $500. All proceeds will be donated to the Heart Haiti to help fund their efforts to bring clean water to a village in Haiti. The hands will be made into a display to show how our Edison Middle School community has come together to "lend a hand" to those in need.
JAZZ MUSIC ASSEMBLY - Tomorrow, Friday March 5th - Students will attend this assembly during 8th period
March 8th - Our next public PTA meeting will take place at 7:30pm. ALL Parents are welcome!! Our guest speaker will be Amy Lewis from the West Orange Health Dept. Her presentation will be on parents role in preventing Teen Prescription Drug Abuse.
At the meeting, please consider joining the PTA with your family membership fee of only $10. You can also chose to make a one- time Hassle Free Fundraiser contribution of any amount. Fundraisers allow the PTA to provide and meet the needs of our students' activities. Details are explained on the PTA membership form found on the Documents page.
Student-Parent Directory, e-Newsletter, and Tri-Fold Reference Guide: The student directory and parent contact list will serve as a comprehensive reference to Edison staff, teachers, as well as other parents and students. The EMS e-newsletters provide information on school events, student sports and club schedules, fundraisers and West Orange community events via weekly email notifications. The tri-fold reference guide provides a handy, quick reference to school staff and teacher contact information, school closing dates, various event dates, and Emergency School closing information. Please sign up for these must have resources.
Flower Power - This spring fundraiser is headed by the Environmental Club - They need your support to add beautiful spring flowers to our school's rock garden. Please review the details on the flyer found on the documents webpage. When you order your flowers Flower Power will give Edison Middle School 50% of the cost of your purchase. Our 7-week NJ ASK tutorials have started and are held afterschool until 4:30 pm. Mathematics is held on Tuesdays and Language Arts is held on Thursdays.
The NJ ASK testing itself has been moved to May 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. We will not have late buses or extracurricular activities during the NJ ASK testing week.
In May, our 6th graders will be visiting Roosevelt and Liberty to attend orientations for the upcoming year. Our Liberty visit is on May 7th from 9:00-10:15am, and our Roosevelt visit is on May 10th during the same time frame. Permission forms will be sent home in April.
Spring concerts: Orchestra/Chorus students will perform on May 19th at 7:30 pm, and Band students will perfrom on May 26th at 7:30pm.
School trip to Thomas Edison Museum - Green Team - Re-scheduled Date To Be Determined
Volley for Project Graduation - All parents and friends are encouraged to support the volleyball teams. It's lots of fun. Snacks will also be available, and all proceeds go towards the High School graduation fund. This is an annual fundraiser from which your Edison student one day will also benefit. All games are held on WEDNESDAY nights only at LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL (cost $2 per Adult, $1 per Student). Semi-final games: March 24th. and Finals, March 31. See Game Schedule on the Documents page.

EMS parents who wish to sign up for an account with the West OrangeSchool District Messenger System should contact the school office at 973-669-5360. The Messenger System will contact you at home with important announcements such as school closings due to inclement weather. When signing up, you will (a) create your SchoolMessenger account and associate your child to it, and (b) click "Edit" in the Actions Column on the Contacts Tab and add your email address(es) and telephone number(s) where indicated. If you have already created a Contact Manager account but are not sure if you added your telephone numbers and email information, you easily do so by visiting http://contactme.schoolmessenger.com/ to update your information.

For the spring, the Gardening Club anticipates a garden art project
The West Orange Police Athletic League (PAL) is taking signups for Kickball (5,6 and 7 year olds) and Baseball for ages 8 - 12. Please see www.wopal.org for more details.
PASSE--Parents Advocating for Special Services in Education is for parents or guardians of students receiving ANY special services through the West Orange school district, including speech, OT, PT, resource room instruction, accommodations under 504 plans, or an IEP. Each school is represented by parent liaisons whose children go there, and the school liaison for Edison is PTA Board Member, Alyse Lillis, 973-325-0109, dalillis@verizon.net PASSE advocates for the needs of ALL students who receive services from our school district, and is an important source of information and assistance for parents and caregivers of these students. Edison's PTA welcomes parent concerns and questions which may be voiced at the monthly PTA meetings. By attending these meetings you will participate first hand in discussions that are key to the social and academic education of our children. The school administration, teachers, and especially your child will be glad you did it!!
