Welcome to the Liberty Middle School
Health & Physical Education Department!
Mission Statement
The mission of the Liberty Physical Education Department is to educate as well as empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. The staff at Liberty Middle School teaches a quality based physical education program that enhances movement and knowledge skills as stated by the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards. The curriculum is centered on developmentally appropriate activities which meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of our students. Every student, regardless of ability level, is provided with a learning environment that is modified, when necessary, to allow for maximum participation. Our program focuses on the five components of fitness and students are required to explore exercises that target each component. The students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability while showing improvement throughout the year. Students’ fitness is assessed based on national test guidelines and administered in the beginning and end of the year in order to evaluate progress. Our staff aims to promote lifetime fitness in a safe, diverse, and enjoyable environment while encouraging students to lead healthy, active lifestyles. We view physical education as one of the necessary components of a well rounded formal education and strive for the success of our students.
