As the principal of West Orange High School (WOHS), it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website where you can learn about our school with its rich curricular and co-curricular programs, dedicated and talented staff and wonderful students.
WOHS is truly an outstanding educational institution with approximately 95% of our graduates going on to post-secondary education. Our Advanced Placement Program is very strong with twenty AP courses offered. Our students’ scores on AP exams continue to surpass state and national averages. Our students have been successful in so many curricular and co-curricular areas and have been recognized for their accomplishments. The State Commissioner of Education conferred and awarded WOHS “Model Program” status for our Pacesetter Spanish Program and recently, our Heritage Spanish Program. WOHS was one of seven school districts in the state to serve as a Resource Center for exemplary World Language Programs. Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program has also been recognized by the State. We have also served as a Model ESL Program Resource Center for the Northern New Jersey Region. In the past few years, WOHS graduates have been accepted to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities including Princeton, MIT, Cornell, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Amherst, Vassar, Duke, , NYU, Cooper Union and the Juilliard School of Music. Our Mountaineer teams continue to bring distinction to our athletic program. Our athletic teams have captured such titles as Northern Hills Champions and Essex County Champions. The year before last, our Boys’ Soccer team captured the Group IV State Championship. Several of our athletes received substantial college scholarships. Our excellent music program continues to flourish. Our orchestras and bands are second to none. Our award winning WOHS Marching Band had another successful season and captured first place in several Group 5 competitions. Many of our talented musicians and vocalists were selected for All Eastern, State, Region and Area Bands and Ensembles. At the Winter Guard International World Championship, the WOHS Winter Guard placed third and received a bronze medal. Academically, we continue to excel with more students recognized as AP Scholars and National Merit Commended Students. A number of our students have had the good fortune to be selected to attend the Governor’s School of New Jersey. These are only a few examples of the awards/achievements of West Orange High School and our students. We have also received awards and recognition for our excellent artists, cheerleaders, drill team, step team, color guard, bands, mathematics and science teams, drama program, literary magazine, journalism and TV 36.
